Types of Glazing

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass offers the same strength as ordinary flat glass but consists of two pieces of glass which sandwich a middle interlayer, which is typically made from polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ethylene – vinyl acetate (EVA). If the glass is broken, the middle inter-layer holds the whole pieces of glass either side in place.

In the event of breakage, laminated glass does not leave a gaping hole for an intruder to use to easily access a premises and there are no large free shards of glass which threaten to injure passers-by. Laminated glass is therefore frequently used in shop windows and shopping centres as well as in the skylights, ground floor doors and windows of residential and commercial buildings.

Laminated glass is available in 6.4mm, 8.8mm, 10.8mm, 11.5mm and anti-bandit 13.5mm

Fire-Rated

Fire Rated

Fire-rated glass is a specialized type of glass that has undergone rigorous testing and certification to offer a predetermined level of protection against the devastating effects of fire. Engineered with safety as a top priority, this type of glass is meticulously crafted to withstand the intense heat, flames, and smoke that can occur during a fire emergency.

In the unfortunate event of a fire, fire-rated glass acts as a formidable barrier, impeding the spread of flames and heat from one area to another. Its exceptional heat resistance properties provide valuable time for individuals to evacuate the premises safely and for firefighting efforts to be initiated. This glass type is a critical component in creating compartmentalized spaces, helping to minimize the fire’s impact and contributing to overall building safety.

Toughened Glass

Toughened glass is a type of safety glass that has been processed with controlled thermal or chemical treatments through intense heating and rapid cooling. This tempering process used by toughened glass manufacturers puts the outer surface of the glass into compression and the inner surface into tension. This, in turn, forms a rigid outer layer which makes the glass incredibly strong and durable and does not alter the stiffness of the glass.

When broken, toughened glass breaks down into small granular pieces rather than large sharp shards of glass. The greater the surface stress, the smaller the glass particles will be when broken.

Toughened glass is most frequently used where heat resistance and intensive durability are of utmost importance. It is used in a variety of demanding application i.e. Frameless Glass Shopfronts, glass doors and architectural glass facades.

Toughen glass is available in 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 19mm.

Toughen Laminated Glass

Toughened laminated glass is an amalgamation of the finest properties of laminated glass and toughened glass. Laminated glass consists of two pieces of glass held together by an extremely tough PVB plastic interlayer. Whilst toughened glass is processed in order to create a product that is extremely durable and resistant to heat. When combined, these two materials create an extremely sturdy solution which has fast become a popular choice due to its seamless finish and durability.

This type of tempered glass offers high performance and strength under extreme pressures and is less prone to breakage. This means that even if one-panel breaks, the safety glass will maintain its form and prevent injury.

There are many uses for toughened laminated glass both within the workspace or in the comfort of your home. Whether you require shopfronts, walk-on-glass flooring or glass balustrades, this type of glass is a top-quality solution.

Double Glazing

Double-glazing consists of two panes of glass separated by a layer of trapped argon gas. The layer of argon gas has 67% of thermal conductivity of air, making it a poor conductor of heat, thus keeping warm air trapped inside and helping improve energy efficiency. This extra pane of glass also acts as a secondary barrier to noise, and strengthens the window to improve security.

Double glaze units are available in a variety sizes.
